Bridge shows how local politics matter
"It does blow me away that this would be the circumstance," said Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen with regards to the Longmeadow Toll Bridge project not receiving any funding from the state.
Do tell, Chris. As a constituent of Dundee Township, I'm blown away that we got a toll bridge that the majority of constituents did not want in the first place. I'm further blown away that the board that voted for this project was a majority Republican board and voted to go forward with Longmeadow despite the overwhelming objections of local residents. I was even further blown away when the board members from Dundee Township who voted for Longmeadow decided they didn't want to seek another term and stayed off the ballot in 2018.
So now you're "fuming" that a project constituents didn't want isn't getting funding that you knew full well wasn't going to be there in the first place but you get to blame state Senators Castro and DeWitte along with Democrats on the county board in the process. Meanwhile, I'll sit in traffic on Algonquin Road for my El Molino carry-out rather than pay your stupid toll even if it takes me an extra three minutes.
This is a perfect example of why local elections matter, because while you're checking under the bed for Boss Madigan or watching the President Trump's latest "Lock Her Up" rally on CNN, guys like Chris Lauzen are pulling this trash right under our noses at the county and township level, where it truly does matter. Hoping for another cleansing in 2020 at the top and bottom of the ticket.
