Driver in crash that killed 3 ordered held without bond
CHICAGO (AP) - The driver of a car involved in a fiery crash on Chicago's West Side that left three dead has been ordered held without bond.
Cook County Circuit Judge Susana Ortiz called 24-year-old Deanton Thompson a "clear and present danger" Wednesday when she denied bond for the man charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police say Thompson was speeding as he went through an intersection and collided with an SUV. His car struck a pole and caught fire.
Thompson's attorney, Steven Fine, suggested a car other than the SUV may have been involved in the crash, pushing Thompson's car into the intersection.
Killed in Sunday's crash were Thompson's sister, 25-year-old Deseanell Thompson; 27-year-old Damon Patterson; and Jaron Patterson. Prosecutors say they were trapped in the backseat.
