Astonishing figure
In reading the article "More gambling, more addicts" in a recent Daily Herald, I couldn't help but be shocked by the amount - $5.8 billion.
The article states that there are 31,000 slot machines in Illinois (not counting casino slot machines) and gamblers have lost about $5.8 billion at these devices.
Am I missing something here? $5.8 billion! And our representatives in Springfield are asking for still higher taxes. Where is this $5.8 billion in revenue going?
If $5.8 billion dollars is correct and not a typo, why can't our taxes be reduced. Go figure.
