Fox Lake woman dies after her car struck on Route 60 in Fremont Township

An 89-year-old Fox Lake woman died Friday after her car was struck by another vehicle on Route 60 in Fremont Township, authorities said.

The woman, who was behind the wheel of a 2005 Dodge Neon, was making a left turn from southbound Wilson Road onto eastbound Route 60 around noon Friday, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.

Her car was struck by a 2018 Kia Forte driven by a 28-year-old Lake in the Hills man who was going west on Route 60, the sheriff's office said.

While the woman had stopped at a stop sign on Wilson Road before turning left, there is no stop sign for traffic on Route 60, and the driver of the Kia was unable to avoid striking the Dodge, authorities said.

The victim was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries, to which she succumbed shortly after arriving at the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled by the Lake County coroner's office. Her identity was not released Friday.

The driver of the Kia was treated and released by paramedics at the scene.

The sheriff's office technical crash investigations unit is handling the investigation.
