Finally, Illinois getting things done

The recently concluded legislative session has to be considered as one of the most successful in Illinois history. Despite the usual blah blah about "tax and spend" that has always worked so well for the Republicans, the House and Senate were able to produce legislation that can really make a difference for Illinois.

Yes, taxes will go up, and, yes, some people may leave the state - many would have left anyway. People live where they make a living and where their roots are.

But 97% won't see their income taxes go up. Whoever leaves will represent a small fraction of the remaining 3%. That's unfortunate, but the terrible state that Illinois has gotten itself into by past governmental malpractice had to be corrected by governmental action. Pritzker is the most effective governor since Ogilvie.

Now, if the rest of the country can follow Illinois, there's real hope for our country. The national issues are far more dire than our state issues. Global warming, economic inequality, the weakening power of the old white power structure and more threaten the very survival of the way of life enjoyed by the world since World War II.

Illinois has shown how it can be done. The right wing has had its day. Let it rant about the hot button issues, but get it out of office so the left can get things done.
