Western lowland gorilla born this week at Chicago zoo

CHICAGO (AP) - A Western lowland gorilla at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo has given birth to a healthy infant.

The Chicago Tribune reports Friday that it's the second birth in a month at the Regenstein Center for African Apes.

Zoo officials say the newest and still-unnamed infant was born on June 12 to 24-year-old mother Bana and 30-year-old Kwan. Its sex hasn't yet been determined. The infant gorilla is doing well, nursing and staying close to its mother.

The birth came one month after a male, still unnamed, was born to Kwan and Rollie. Zoo officials say the last gorilla birth at the zoo before this year was in 2015.
