Why can't we get accurate weather forecasts?

Can someone please explain why we cannot receive accurate weather forecasts? I know it's a common joke, but, claims to the contrary aside, it seems that local forecasts change from hour to hour and are, nonetheless, increasingly wrong. It's to the point that the only way to make a reliable assessment is to look out the window, but that doesn't tell me if I have to bring an umbrella to my grandson's soccer game later in the day.

Is climate change driving frequent weather shifts that are outpacing the ability to read patterns and make reliable predictions? All I want to know is what the weather will be like for the next couple of days, or even just for the current day. Is that too much to ask?

Perhaps there is a meteorologist out there who will read my plea and provide an informed explanation of what's going on. I think a lot of people would like to know.
