Abortion is a human rights issue

I read the letter May 27 from Kathy Ryg, who pretends to speak for 60% of the Catholic Church in her pro-abortion rights stance on human life. Ms. Ryg certainly does not speak for me, a wife, mother and grandmother who adheres to not only the Ten Commandments, but also the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, where it has never been permissible for abortion of the unborn. Ms. Ryg, you were once an unborn fetus in the womb and fortunately, brought to term by your mother, who loved you very much.

As to the "separation of church and state," this is a human rights issue, not a religious one. A person is a person, no matter how small, in fact, a life begins at conception, when the egg and sperm unite. The law that would protect the right of choice for women will totally strip away the rights of preborn women.

It is true that God has given each of us freedom to make choices in life, but we also have consciences that show us right from wrong and good from evil. Abortion is the purposeful killing of an unborn human. It is evil and there is always a choice for good and trust that God will help to find a solution to an unwanted pregnancy, one that will protect life and perhaps allow another family, as it allowed mine, to adopt a child who would otherwise end up in the medical waste of Planned Parenthood. Something to ponder (and pray) about.

I, too, know that I am not alone in these beliefs and ask those who share these beliefs to stand up for the rights of the unborn who cannot speak for themselves.
