Aurora man facing DUI, weapon charges after St. Charles crash

A 31-year-old Aurora man is facing felony charges stemming from a three-vehicle crash this week in St. Charles, where police say he was illegally carrying a handgun and driving a stolen car while under the influence of alcohol.

Jarvas S. Gordon, of the 100 block of North Kendall Street, is charged with aggravated DUI with a suspended or revoked license, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card, unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to a news release Wednesday from St. Charles police.

Gordon was driving a 2005 Kia Sportage south on Kirk Road at 9:08 a.m. Monday when the car sideswiped a northbound Ford van, authorities said. The Kia then crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming Toyota Camry head on, just south of Royal Fox Drive.

A witness reported that Gordon exited the vehicle and dropped a handgun, though no threats were made and no shots were fired, police said. Officers recovered the firearm when they arrived.

Authorities also discovered the Kia had been stolen out of Aurora earlier that day.

Drivers of the Toyota and Ford were treated at the scene by paramedics but were not taken to the hospital.

Gordon was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva and was in police custody while being treated for his injuries, officials said. He was released Wednesday and taken to the Kane County jail.

Gordon also was charged with improper lane use, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and illegal transportation of alcohol, police said.
