Slow down on pot

I commend the Daily Herald on its clear and informative opinion page of Sunday, May 19. The public is well served when we are able to read cogent and unemotional views, pro and con, regarding the potential legalization of marijuana in our state.

Although I am strongly opposed to adding another addictive, mind-altering substance to what law enforcement and families of young people must already monitor, I agree that there should be more time taken to study the real effects on states which have adopted legalization, before we take this measure to the voters.

A possible increase in revenue for our state is not sufficient reason to expand and glamorize the use of another harmful substance. Have we learned nothing from the opioid epidemic?
