Indiana town to hold June festival despite tornado damage

PENDLETON, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana town that was swept Monday by a tornado is moving ahead with an annual festival next week despite widespread storm damage.

Todd Harmeson is the Madison County Emergency Management Agency's spokesman. He says Pendleton's June Jamboree will proceed because "the town folks need that." He says the festival that runs next Tuesday through Saturday at Pendleton's Falls Park won't divert resources from storm recovery efforts.

Harmeson tells The Herald Bulletin an amusement company that's providing the festival's games and rides will bring its own generators and additional portable restrooms so residents "can still have their celebration."

The tornado that hit Pendleton and nearby areas destroyed or damaged 30 to 40 homes and toppled trees. It was one of at least eight tornadoes that hit Indiana on Monday.
