Des Plaines Garden Club offereing free milkweed seeds to commuters Monday

In celebration of National Garden Week, members of the Des Plaines Garden Club will be at the Des Plaines Metra station from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 3, offering free milkweed sees to commuters.

They'll be asking those interested to plant the milkweed in their yards to help monarch butterflies. Monarchs eat the milkweed and lay their eggs on the underside of the leaves. The vast majority of milkweed has been killed through the use of pesticides, and the monarch population has been declining as a result.
