Authorities: Body of kayaker recovered in northern Indiana

MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a kayaker who disappeared in a river in northern Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the Monticello Fire Department on Wednesday recovered the body of 58-year-old Stephen Pitts of Indianapolis. He was kayaking on the Tippecanoe River in White County on Monday when his kayak capsized near the Norway Dam and he didn't resurface.

The cause of death is pending, but the DNR says accidental drowning is suspected.

Meanwhile, authorities still are searching this week for Owen Jones, a 4-year-old boy from the Monticello (mahn-tuh-SEL'-oh) area who was swept downstream on May 23 in the rain-swollen Deer Creek in northern Indiana's Carroll County. The child had been playing in Delphi's Riley Park, which the creek flows through.
