Police: Man dies while trying to change flat tire in Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows police say a 71-year-old man died apparently of natural causes while attempting to change a flat tire Tuesday in the Jewel-Osco parking lot on Kirchoff Road.

Sgt. Mike Spanos said officers were sent to the lot after a passer-by saw the man's body on the ground by his car about 7 a.m. on the building's east side, closest to Meadow Drive.

Spanos said the man's car had two flat tires and evidence indicates he was trying to change one of the tires.

He said five police SUVs and an evidence technician vehicle were parked strategically around the area in an effort to shield children from seeing the man's body as they went to Kimball Hill Elementary School, just to the north on Meadow Drive.
