Softball: Trio of area teams lose regional title games
Hononegah 5, Hampshire 2: The Whip-Purs (15-19) launched two home runs on the day, but it wasn't enough to overpower Hononegah in the Class 4A Belvidere North regional championship. Shai-Ann Currie hit a long ball in the fifth inning and Sarah Bowen had a homer in the fourth inning. Katie Del Re took the loss for Hampshire. She lasted 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 5 runs while striking out three and walking one.
McHenry 2, Cary-Grove 0: Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle on Thursday, but McHenry was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Cary-Grove (17-12) in the Class 4A Cary-Grove regional championship game. Emma Hill started the game for the Trojans and recorded 18 outs. Hill surrendered 2 runs on 3 hits over 6 innings, striking out four and walking none.
Lake Park 4, St. Charles North 0: The North Stars (9-14) fell behind early in the Class 4A St. Charles North regional championship game and could not come back against a powerful Lake Park offense. Gracee Ellis took the loss for the North Stars, throwing 3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. Grace Sobieski went 1-for-3 at the plate.
