Chicago police kill man during armed standoff

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say officers fatally shot an armed man who had barricaded himself in a home on the city's South Side after he apparently fired a weapon.

Police say officers arrived shortly after a man called 911 at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to report that his son was upset and had armed himself inside a home near the University of Chicago. The department says officers tried to negotiate for 45 minutes with the man who was threatening to shoot himself before a SWAT team entered the home after several shots were fired from inside. There, two officers shot the man during a confrontation.

The man was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 22-year-old Myles Frazier.
