Body found inside wastewater treatment plant identified
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A coroner has identified a body found inside an eastern Indiana wastewater treatment plant.
Delaware County Coroner Rick Howell said relatives of the man, 41-year-old Michael Donald Coates of Muncie, were notified of his death Wednesday.
Police say the body was discovered Monday morning on a conveyor belt inside the Muncie Sanitary District wastewater treatment plant.
Muncie Police Capt. Joe Todd tells The Star Press an autopsy failed to establish a cause of death.
Todd says Muncie Sanitary District officials have told investigators a filtration system large enough to carry human remains stretches across the city.
Investigators have determined Coates was last in touch with a family member on Sunday morning.
