Man shot by Chicago police after barricade situation near University of Chicago
Chicago police offers shot a man after a barricade situation that prompted a SWAT response Wednesday near the University of Chicago in Woodlawn on the South Side.
The 22-year-old barricaded himself inside the residence about 11 a.m. in the 1300 block of East 61st Street, according to Chicago police. A SWAT team responded.
He was shot after the barricade situation, according to a tweet from Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said the man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, but his condition was not immediately known.
Police said authorities initially received reports that the man may have fired gunshots inside the home, but those reports have not been confirmed.
