Lombard Historical Society celebrates music, ice cream

A concert and ice cream social series, sponsored by the Lombard Historical Society, will take the stage this summer at the William J. Mueller Gazebo behind the Victorian Cottage at 23 W. Maple St.

The series will run from June through August, with an opening performance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, with Dan Haughey performing Civil War tunes.

Haughey has toured with his one-person show on Ulysses S. Grant to schools, museums, national parks and service clubs in nine states since 1981, including the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis.

He also tours in his new one-person show, "RangerManDan!" about the wacky things people try to do to the environment.

He has served as president of the Illinois Theatre Association and is a member of the Teaching Artists Guild of America. His play "The Private Room" was featured off-Broadway in 2017 in the prestigious Strawberry One-Act Play Festival.

The first 30 people at the June 5 show will receive a coupon for a free Dairy Queen Dilly Bar. Bring a chair or a blanket and park at the Lombard Historical Society to pick up your coupon.

The event is coproduced by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau and is free and suitable for all ages. For details, visit www.lombardhistory.org, email info@lombardhistory.org or phone (630) 629-1885.

The Lombard Historical Society celebrates the village's heritage by collecting, preserving and interpreting its history and operates the Victorian Cottage Museum, the Carriage House and the Society's Archives at 23 W. Maple St., and the Sheldon Peck Homestead, a National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site, at 355 E. Parkside Ave.

Both the Victorian Cottage and Peck Homestead host activities and groups and are open for tours several days a week.
