Jury convicts man of bilking employer out of more than $2M

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A federal jury has convicted a northern Indiana man of charges alleging that he bilked his employer out of more than $2 million.

The jury in South Bend convicted 62-year-old Kevin Clinton on Tuesday of four counts of mail fraud.

Federal prosecutors say the New Carlisle man was employed as the chief information officer for a South Bend business. He allegedly incorporated his own business and used a virtual office to submit fraudulent billings to his employer totaling more than $2.2 million.

Clinton's employer then sent checks to his virtual office as payment for those "fake" services.

Prosecutors say Clinton's employers didn't know he owned the business they sent checks to over a 5-year period. He's scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 22.
