Ex-Indiana nurse gets jail in abuse case involving patients

MADISON, Ind. (AP) - A former southern Indiana nurse has been sentenced to 100 days in jail for battery involving four mental health patients that all were over the age of 65.

The Indiana attorney general's office says 67-year-old Sharon Back was given her punishment this week after pleading guilty last month. She's scheduled to report to jail next week and also was ordered to serve the remainder of a 6-year sentence through Jefferson County Community Corrections.

The case dates back to 2014 and 2015, when Back was working at Madison State Hospital. Back was fired after an internal investigation into allegations by her coworkers that she was abusing patients in the facility's "Healing Heights" unit that housed patients with physical infirmities.

Back agreed to the revocation of her nursing license in 2016.
