Girls soccer: St. Charles East, Elgin win regional openers
St. Charles East 7. Hoffman Estates 2: Elle McCaslin scored 2 goals and assisted on 2 goals to lead the Saints (20-5) to the Class 3A regional finals at Hoffman Estates. Hannah Miller had a hat trick for St. Charles East, while Grace Griffin and Emma Tallitsch combined for 2 saves in goal. St. Charles East will play the winner of Wednesday's match between Wheaton Warrenville South and West Chicago for the regional championship Friday.
Elgin 2, DeKalb 1: Evelyn Sanchez scored a goal and assisted on a goal to lead the Maroons (14-9) past DeKalb in the Class 3A DeKalb regional semifinal match. Elgin will face Barrington at DeKalb on Friday for the regional title. Joanna Mercado stopped the DeKalb offense, tallying 9 saves in goal for Elgin.
Cary-Grove 10, Harlem 0: The Trojans (12-2-1) were more than prepared to advance to the regional final at Dundee-Crown, as Jenna Stayart scored 3 goals and Kenedi Jones added a goal and 2 assists. Mckenna Sheehan, Lauren Passaglia and Sydney Schmidt all took turns in goal for Cary-Grove. Cary-Grove will play the winner of Wednesday's battle between Larkin and host Dundee-Crown for the title on Friday.
