Softball: Johnson, Pieper lead Vernon Hills to win

Madison Johnson pitched a 4-hit shutout, Brooke Pieper homered and drove in 4 runs, and Vernon Hills beat Glenbrook North 6-0 in Central Suburban League North Division softball action Monday.

Johnson struck out nine and walked four. Pieper was 3-for-4, while Caeli Kinsella was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Johnson, Delaney Bowen and Rachel Wright all doubled for Vernon Hills (16-12, 8-2).

Grayslake North 15, Crystal Lake Central 9: The visiting Knights won their 10th game in a row after their 16th win in their last 19 games to improve to 22-9.

Jess Pozezinski (3-for-5, 5 RBI) hit her fifth homer of the year, a 3-run blast in the fourth. Freshman Nicole Hughes (3-for-5, 2 doubles), Caitlin Barenbaum (2-for-4, double, RBI), Shannon Hill (2-for-5, double, 2 RBI), Scout Kram (2-for-5, double, RBI), Grace Brown (2-for-4, double, RBI), Maddy Wais (RBI) and Faith Standerski (double) also had hits. The Knights recorded 7 doubles in the game. Kram earned the win in relief, throwing 5⅓ innings.

Libertyville 16, Lake Forest 0: Sarah Bennett (4 RBI) and Maggie Evers were both 4-for-4 for the Wildcats in the North Suburban Conference game.

Libertyville (19-7, 12-1) also got 3-for-3 efforts with 4 RBI each from Aliya Haddon and Ella Zombolo. Winning pitcher Katie Jahncke allowed 1 hit and struck out six in 4 innings.

Lake Zurich 11, Mundelein 1: Elizabeth Chialdikas was 3-for-4 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI, and the host Bears won in North Suburban Conference action.

Haley Gajewski added a single and 2 RBI for Lake Zurich (14-10, 8-4), and Maura Ginn allowed 1 run over 5 innings.

Kendall Klatt hit a solo homer for Mundelein.

Warren 10, Stevenson 8: Caitlyn Britton hit her 16th homer of the season and 49th of her career, as the Blue Devils improved to 20-4 and 10-3 in the North Suburban Conference.

Maggie Trotter homered for Stevenson.

Crystal Lake South 13, Wauconda 6: Calli Janik was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs in their nonconference loss.

Angelica Cho also had a double for Wauconda (4-17).
