Moms, kids skip breakfast in bed for Barrington 5K

Plenty of moms deservedly slept in late and woke to breakfast in bed to start their Mother's Day celebrations Sunday.

Then there were the dozens who got up early, strapped on workout gear and running shoes, then dashed through the streets of Barrington for the Mother's Day 5K.

Of course, given the day, the race was about more than just an early morning workout. There was a 100-yard Kids Dash to get the young ones involved, and every finisher was greeted with a rose and a chocolate cake pop treat.

The race also served as a fundraiser for WINGS, a Palatine-based organization that provides shelter, education and other services to families across the region who are impacted by domestic violence.
