Softball: Elk Grove's Masnica shuts down Hoffman
Junior Olivia Masnica did it all for Elk Grove's softball team in a 14-0 five-inning triumph over visiting Hoffman Estates on Thursday.
Not only did she throw 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts, Masnica (6-2) also came through at the plate. She went 3-for-4 with 6 RBI, a home run and 2 doubles.
Also getting extra base hits for the Grenadiers were Jaimie Klicka (2B) and Morgan Leach (2B).
Elk Grove improved to 20-7 and 7-6 in the Mid-Suburban East, giving coach Ken Grams 945 wins as the winningest active coach in Illinois high school softball.
Gracie Velazquez and Emily Grossi had the hits for Hoffman (1-23, 1-13).
Schaumburg 9, Buffalo Grove 8: Trailing 8-4, host Schaumburg scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to raise its record to 10-16 and 6-8 in the MSL West.
Tiffani Rudnick (3-for-4, 2B), Sophie Rainey (4-for-4, 5 RBI, HR, 2B) and Tatiana Copper (2-for-4) were multiple hitters for the Saxons. Freshman Morgan Miler struck out seven as the winning pitcher.
Angelina Craig (2-for-3), Kimberly Stuerke (2-for-4), Sam Hansen (2-for-3), Hannah Young (2B) and Bailey Williams (2B) led the offense for BG (8-12, 5-9).
Maine West 5, Highland Park 0: Sophomore Abby Gawlinski fired a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the visiting Warriors improved to 13-9 and 8-2 in the CSL North.
Brianna Migaczewski (4-for-4, 2B), Olivia Feldkamp (2-for-3, 2B) and Amanda Byrne (2B) led the West offense.
Loyola 8, Hersey 4: Brianna Luciano (2-for-3) and Makayla Tsagalis (2-for-4, 2B) led the offense for MSL Easy champ Hersey (17-5) on its Senior Day in the nonconference game.
Also getting hits for the Huskies were Morgan Breden (2B), Renae Curtis, Savannah Gazda and Chloe Gordon.
Luciano (8-3) struck out six.
