Baseball: Laughery hits 'slam' as Grant stays perfect in NLCC

Danny Laughery belted a grand slam, and Grant's baseball team defeated Grayslake North 12-2 Thursday to remain undefeated in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Aaron Vertuno had a single and 2 RBI for the Bulldogs (20-4, 13-0). Val Cerna and Carlos Martinez each had a pair of hits, and Henry Kusiak (1-0) earned the win.

Highland Park 12, Vernon Hills 5: The Giants avenged a loss from earlier this week in Central Suburban League North Division action.

The Giant broke the game open with a 6-run fourth inning. Derek Jarrell drew the loss for the Cougars. Brendan Holloway, Ethan Bowers and Danny Wizceb each had hits for Vernon Hills (15-10, 7-6).

Fremd 5, Stevenson 4: Chris Farina and Jake Surane wereboth 2-for-4 for the visiting Patriots in their nonconference loss.

Farina and Zach Taylor doubled, as Stevenson fell to 17-9.
