Nominations open for statewide top teacher awards

Know any outstanding and inspiring teachers who deserve recognition?

The Illinois State Board of Education is accepting nominations for the 2020 Illinois Teacher of the Year and Those Who Excel awards.

The awards honor people who have made significant contributions to prekindergarten through 12th grade, at public or private schools. Anyone or any organization can submit nominations.

This is the 45th year for ISBE's Teacher of the Year award program.

"Illinois' educators are so dynamic; they are constantly learning, growing and finding new ways to excel," State Superintendent of Education Carmen Ayala said.

Nominating categories include classroom teacher (licensed), early career educator, education service personnel (unlicensed), school administrator, school board member/community volunteer, student support personnel (licensed), and team.

The Illinois Teacher of the Year will be selected from the classroom teacher category. State education officials will announce the 2020 Teacher of the Year and recognize Those Who Excel award winners at ISBE's banquet this fall.

Nominations are due by June 3. For more information and to view the nomination form, visit isbe.net/thosewhoexcel.
