Softball: Berwanger's homer lifts Grant over Antioch

Freshman Kaylin Berwanger hit a tiebreaking homer in the top of the seventh inning, and Grant defeated Antioch 4-3 in Northern Lake County Conference softball action Wednesday.

Sarah Gallivan also homered for the Bulldogs, and Julianna Reynolds went the distance in the circle, striking out five and walking four.

Antioch (21-4, 6-3), which lost for the second day in a row, got 11 strikeouts from starter Jeri Bonaguidi. Megan Lawrence (2-for-3) and Rilee Schreiner homered for the Sequoits, and Ashlyn Sundell was 3-for-4 with a double.

Grayslake Central 15, Glenbrook North 2: The Rams won the nonconference game in five innings, as Kennedy Stoffel went 4-for-4 with a double.

Elisa Koshy homered for Grayslake Central (16-4), and Grace Bradley earned the win.

Vernon Hills 16, Deerfield 4: Mackenzie Mahler and Rachel Wright homered, and the visiting Cougars had 15 hits in their Central Suburban League North Division win.

Wright (2 RBI) and Jordyn Smith (RBI) each went 3-for-4 for Vernon Hills. Quin Yuter (RBI), Mahler (3 RBI) and Caeli Kinsella each had a pair of hits, and Jess Lea contributed a double.

Waukegan 2, Mundelein 1: Andrea Miller homered in the top of the eighth inning to lift the Bulldogs in the North Suburban Conference game.

Enedy Perez also hit a home run for Waukegan.
