Girls soccer: Wauconda claims NLCC crown

Add another Northern Lake County Conference championship for the Wauconda girls soccer team. The Bulldogs (13-2-2, 6-0-1) shut out host Antioch 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon. to claim their third straight NLCC title and fourth in a row counting the final year of the North Suburban Prairie.

Katie Karecki scored a pair of goals, Belle Johnson had a goal and 3 assists and Megan Sinnott knocked in the other two and assisted on another while Mackenzie Arden and Emma Miller combined for the clean sheet in goal.

"Our speed was deadly today and on four of our goals, we were able to sneak balls through on angles to feet and finish under control," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "We're really proud of our accomplishment. We greatly respect our competition in this conference, and our girls have done a great job making sure that we keep our competitive level high. We know we're getting the best effort from every team in the conference. Antioch was no exception. They put pressure on us in various moments, including a shot off the crossbar."

Antioch (6-8-3) sits at 0-4-2 in the NLCC.

Round Lake 9, North Chicago 0: Round Lake finished its NLCC run on a high note with a victory over North Chicago.

The Panthers added to their school record of victories and now stand at 14-3-1 and 5-1-1 in the NLCC.

Claudia Hernandez and Andrea Guzman each had a pair of goals leading Round Lake. Alexandria Wawrzyniak, Stephanie Caldero, Evelyn Hierzer and Leslie Lopez scored the others.

Grayslake Central 7, Grant 0: Grayslake Central got past host Grant in a Northern Lake County game in Fox Lake. The Rams improved their record to 8-8 and 3-4 in the NLCC, while the Bulldogs fell to 4-10-2 and 1-5-1.

Madeline Mussay led Grayslake Central with a pair of goals, Grace Hermann added a goal and 4 assists, while Georgia Bond, Maura Fitzgerald, Victoria Medina and Amanda Kocialkowski had the other goals.

Libertyville 3, Carmel 1: Libertyville picked up a road victory over Carmel in a nonconference matchup. Emma Manolovic scored twice and Helena Janczak had the other goal. The Wildcats improved to 12-6, while the Corsairs dropped to 7-9-3.

Vernon Hills 2, Niles West 0: Vernon Hills won in a shutout over visiting Niles West in a Central Suburban crossover.

Jesse Biede and Ziggy Jazorski each scored for the Cougars. Brynn Ziemke and Gill Johnson picked up assists.

"Tonight, we played quality possession soccer," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "It was nice to get rewarded for continuing to work hard in practice and games."

Vernon Hills raised its record to 6-7-5.
