Baseball: West Aurora's Wilson tosses no-hitter
Eddie Wilson threw a no-hitter and West Aurora defeated Glenbard East 5-0 in the Upstate Eight Saturday.
Wilson struck out six. He issued a walk and the Blackhawks committed an error. Wilson and Anthony Malczyk each had 2 hits for West Aurora (17-7, 13-5).
Glenbard East bounced back to win the second game of the doubleheader 2-1. Logan Mont (4-2) took the loss despite 9 strikeout in 7 innings. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and a walk.
Kaneland no-hits Wheaton Academy: Alex Buchanan (3 innings pitched), Angel Acevedo (2 IP) and Nik Panico (2 IP) threw a combined no-hitter in a 3-0 nonconference win for Kaneland (19-7). The trio issued 3 walks and struck out 16, led by 6 from Buchanan (4-1).
Elgin Academy clinches ISL title: The Hilltoppers clinched their third straight Independent School League title with a doubleheader sweep of Francis W. Parker by a combined score of 31-0. Ethan Hill hit a home run and 2 doubles and drove in 7 runs to lead Elgin Academy (18-4, 9-0)
Harves Christian Academy sweeps: The Lions defeated the Alden-Hebron/Faith Lutheran coop team 14-0 and 11-3. Jack McMahon drove in 6 runs in 2 games and Gil Duran doubled twice for Harvest Christian ().
Cary-Grove 1, Hampshire 0: Cary-Grove's Jack Wenninger made a first-inning unearned run stand up in a pitcher's duel against Hampshire ace Matthew Jachec. Wenninger (5-0) pitched a 5-hit shutout. He issued a walk and struck out nine for Cary-Grove (17-4, 11-2). Jachec (4-2), committed to Indiana State, held the Trojans to 5 hits and a walk and struck out nine in 6 innings for Hampshire (13-9, 7-6). LJ Waco singled to drive in Jack Thompson for the only run of the Fox Valley Conference game.
Huntley 5, Crystal Lake Central 4: Hunter Rumachik was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to drive in Kyle Maurer for the walk-off Fox Valley Conference win. Christian Kasal pitched one inning to take the win in relief of Jimmy Fairley, who scattered 5 hits and a walk in 6 innings.
Huntley 3, Prairie Ridge 1: Eli Paplanus (6-3) struck out nine and held the Wolves to an unearned run on 2 hits and a walk over 6 innings in a Fox Valley win. Dylan Janke drove in 2 runs and Davis Pasco earned the save for Huntley (21-5, 14-4).
Prairie Ridge 8, Jacobs 6: Christian Scianna went 3-for-4 but the Golden Eagles allowed 10 hits and committed 3 errors in a Fox Valley Conference defeat.
Jacobs 9, Dundee-Crown 2: Winning pitcher Anthony Wilson limited D-C to an earned run on 3 hits and 3 walks and struck out two. Kyle Washington went 3-for-4 in the Fox Valley win for Jacobs (9-15, 4-10). Matt Ward took the loss for Dundee-Crown (4-18, 0-14).
Crystal Lake South 5, Dundee-Crown 4: Kyle Hetherington went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and a walk to lead Crystal Lake South (13-9, 6-9). Dominic Guzman held D-C to 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 6 innings to earn the win. Nick DiBendetto got the save.
Crystal Lake Central 4, Crystal Lake South 0: Justin Obaldo threw a 3-hit shutout for the Tigers. Beiker Fuentes allowed 4 runs (2 earned) in 4⅔ innings for the Gators.
Wheaton North 3-8, Geneva 6-1: The Vikings dropped a pair of tight DuKane Conference games. Blake Breon took the loss in relief of Nick Black in a 3-1 loss. Each threw 4 innings and they limited the Falcons to 3 combined hits but 3 errors led to 3 unearned runs. In Game 2, Wheaton North scored twice in the top of the seventh against reliever Ryan Stempowski to complete the sweep of Geneva (8-15, 2-11).
St. Charles North 11-11, Glenbard North 1-0: Winning pitcher Zach Kempe struck out 5 in 4 innings in an 11-1 win. Nick DeMarco went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI and Jeremy Lambel tossed 3 scoreless innings in an 11-0 victory in Game 2 that completed a DuKane Conference series sweep for St. Charles North (18-6, 13-1).
Marmion 2-0, Mt. Carmel 1-11: The Cadets and Caravan split a Chicago Catholic League Blue doubleheader. Eric Lundell needed only 74 pitches to complete a 4-hitter for Marmion (5-11, 1-7) in Game 1. Mike Gatze took the loss in Game 2.
