Arlington Heights resident to switch on Buckingham Fountain for the summer
An Arlington Heights resident will flip the switch on Buckingham Fountain this weekend as a symbol of the unofficial start to summer.
Megan Briggs, who won an online ComEd contest that asked customers to answer a true/false trivia question about solar energy, will be joined on stage by WGN-TV chief meteorologist Tom Skilling for the 5th annual Switch on Summer event on Sunday.
Briggs will turn on the fountain at 2 p.m., but the event runs from noon to 3 p.m., with live entertainment from 1980s cover band Sixteen Candles, rock band Today's Trade, and the Joffrey Ballet's Exelon Strobel Step-Up Dancers. There will also be giveaways and family-friendly activities from some 20 community organizations.
