Elgin man with 'Live by the gun' tattoo charged in armed robbery

An Elgin man with a "Live by the gun, Die by the gun" neck tattoo was charged after an armed robbery at a Citgo gas station, according to Elgin police and court records.

Jeffrey D. Richardson, 28, of the 200 block of Locust Street, was charged Wednesday with armed robbery with a firearm and armed violence, both Class X felonies, police said Thursday. Richardson's mug shot shows the neck tattoo.

Police responded about 9:08 p.m. Wednesday to a report of an armed robbery involving a handgun at a business in the 1500 block of Larkin Avenue, police said.

According to Kane County court records, Richardson is accused of stealing $1,240 from a clerk at Citgo, 1580 Larkin Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene and met with the victim, who was not injured. Officers located Richardson, who matched the offender's description, and he was arrested after a brief foot chase, police said.

The cash and a cellphone taken during the robbery were recovered, police said.

Richardson's bail was set at $15,000 in Kane County bond court Thursday.

Richardson is next due in court May 9 and faces a punishment of six to 30 years in prison if convicted of the most severe offense.
