Baseball: Grayslake Central trio shuts out Round Lake
Three pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters, as Grayslake Central shut out visiting Round Lake 5-0 in Northern Lake County Conference baseball action on Wednesday.
Starter and winner Ethan Peterson struck out six in 3 no-hit innings. Aaron Lieberman followed with 4 strikeouts in 3 innings, and Sean Gniadek pitched the seventh with 1 strikeout.
Offensively for Grayslake Central (16-4, 8-2), Marcus Maristela had a pair of singles, and Eric Sturm had a run-scoring double to lead a 7-hit attack.
Round Lake starting pitcher Wyatt Hill allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs in 4⅔ innings with 8 strikeouts. Jorge Contreras was 1-for-1 with 2 walks for the Panthers.
Stevenson 5, Waukegan 1: The host Patriots received 2 hits each from Jack Jonota (double, RBI), Nick Brueckert and Michael D'Angelo (double, RBI) in the North Suburban Conference game.
Isaiah Hart had a triple for Stevenson (15-6, 7-2), and winning pitcher Nick Wang struck out three in 2 innings.
Vernon Hills 8, Niles West 6: The two Central Suburban League teams squared off on Saturday, but the game was called due to snow in the middle of the second with the Wolves winning 5-3.
The Cougars made the most of their chances as they came back to win. Danny Wizceb pitched the final 5 innings, allowing only 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 12 and walking one.
Quinn Geren (2-for-2, 2 runs, 2 RBI) was a catalyst for Vernon Hills (13-8, 4-4), as he was on base all four times he batted. Josh Liu (2-for-4, run, RBI), Brendan Holloway (1-for-3, RBI) and Thomas Monken (1-for-3, run) contributed offensively as well.
