High water closes several roads across northern Indiana

MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - High water has led to the closure of several roads across northern Indiana.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports roads were Wednesday in Hammond, Hobart, Portage and Porter County. The National Weather Service says at least 10 Marshall County roads also are closed because of high water.

Assistant Portage Street Department Superintendent Randy Reeder told The Times the city has received 4ˆ½ inches of rainfall in 48 hours.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. spokeswoman Megan Henning says the weather also was responsible for a tree falling and cutting power to more than 12,000 customers for 2ˆ½ hours Wednesday morning. She says the tree damaging a main circuit that feeds several sub stations.
