Donated vest for police dog

A Lake County police dog has received a bullet and stab protective vest donated by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., authorities said. The body armor given to "Boomer" was also sponsored by Yorkville Paws & Claws and came embroidered with the words "Honoring those who served and sacrificed." Vested Interest in K9s is a charity from East Taunton, Massachusetts, that provides bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. It has provided more than 3,300 vests in 50 states since its inception at an estimated total cost of $5.7 million, money raised through private and corporate donations. The donation to provide one protective vest for a police dog is $950, but has a value of up to $2,283, authorities said.
