Carol Stream Woman's Club to hold program on homeless veterans shelter

Come join the Carol Stream Woman's Club at their May meeting to see what it's all about and hear about ways you can help local homeless veterans. And, they'd like everyone to participate in the spring project!

The club will meet Tuesday, May 21, at Glenbard North High School, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream. Enter through Door 1 and go straight into the teacher's cafeteria. For information, visit cswc.org or www.facebook/CarolStreamWomansClub. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m.

Emily Kehoe from the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans will talk about this nonprofit agency that provides housing, supportive services and community outreach to help homeless and at-risk veterans and their families achieve self-sufficiency.

Founded in 2007, by Vietnam War veteran Bob Adams and Gulf War veteran Dirk Enger, it operates on a vision of no veteran left behind due to homelessness, joblessness, poverty and/or mental health issues.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs-Illinois is celebrating its 125th anniversary and has asked all clubs to do a service project that revolves around "125."

The Carol Stream Woman's Club Spring Quarterly Project will be collecting (at least!) 125 feminine hygiene products. Bring your items to the meeting! These items will be donated to the women at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

The philanthropic and social club supports local organizations with time and monetary donations.

The club has events and projects that support their chosen philanthropies and give back to the community all while enjoying a social relationship with other women in the community.

Open to women from neighboring towns. Their motto is "make new friends and make a difference."
