Pitching matchups: The Cubs' Cole Hamels (3-0) vs. Felix Hernandez (1-2) at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday; Jon Lester (1-1) vs. Marco Gonzalez (5-0) at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday

At a glance: After a hot start, the Mariners have cooled. They lost the final two games of a home weekend series against Texas. The Mariners are 18-13, and they entered Monday second in the American League West, one-half game behind Houston. Seattle is managed by former Cubs catcher Scott Servais. Onetime Cubs prospect Daniel Vogelbach has a line of .310/.457/.732 with 8 homers and 16 RBI. Reliever Zac Rosscup, who pitched for the Cubs, has a 2.08 ERA. The Mariners entered Monday leading the AL in runs scored, but their team ERA of 4.45 was eighth. The Cubs have a run differential of plus-26, third best in the National League entering Monday. Their team on-base percentage of .352 was second in the NL. Hamels is 7-3 with a 4.64 ERA vs. the Mariners while Lester is 6-4 with a 3.27 ERA.
