August trials set for 2 men charged in homicide in forest
PERU, Ind. (AP) - Two men will face trial in August in the death of a man who was fatally beaten in a northern Indiana forest.
A Miami County judge set an Aug. 19 trial for 22-year-old Ethan Cain of Marion. He faces murder, obstruction of justice and other charges. The Kokomo Tribune reports that Cain is accused of a plot to rob 22-year-old Drake Smith of drugs and money.
Authorities say Cain and 22-year-old LaFountaine resident Joshua Kean beat the Summitville man to death with a metal pipe last May in the Frances Slocum State Forest, near Peru.
Kean's trial is also set to begin Aug. 19. He faces identical charges.
Kean and Cain were arrested in May 2018 in Imperial County, California.
