Softball: Burlington Central knocks off Kaneland

Burlington Central scored four runs in the first inning and didn't look back in an 8-4 nonconference win over Kaneland on Friday.

The Rockets (13-4) built an 8-0 lead and then held on as Kaneland scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Abigail Sanders earned the win, going 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits and striking out two.

McKenna Ryan took the loss for Kaneland. She allowed 8 hits and 8 runs over 7 innings, striking out four. Only one run was earned as Kaneland made 7 errors.

Sanders led Central with 2 hits in 4 at-bats and also had 2 RBI. Peyton Curtis and Lindsay Jamrozek also drove in two.

Olivia Stoker and Maddy Wheatley both collected 2 hits for Kaneland (18-5). Hailey Roach had 2 RBI.

Hampshire 2, Woodstock North 0: Katie Del Re threw a shutout, striking out 13 and walking none while allowing 6 hits. Bridget Haefling and Shai-Ann Currie both had 2 hits for the Whip-Purs (10-8).

Geneva 13, Palatine 2: Sam Keller (2-for-3, 3 runs), Emily Viebrock (2-for-5, 2 runs, 3 RBI), Alyssa Kramer (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Sydney Erdmann (2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBI) and Madison Femia (2-for-3, 2 runs) powered the Vikings (5-8). Sydney Haake earned the win.

St. Charles East 19, Wheaton North 9: The Saints trailed 7-2 after three innings and were tied 9-9 going to the fifth when they scored 10 runs.

Alex Wooten smashed two home runs while going 4-for-4 with 7 RBI for the Saints (13-7). Paige Ligocki and Lauren Luna also homered; Luna was 3-for-5 with 4 runs and 3 RBI. Maddy Stout and Krista Sbarra also had 4 hits.
