Softball: Brauer's bat lifts Fremd past Prospect
Junior Kelsey Brauer's walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Fremd's softball team a 7-6 triumph over visiting Prospect on Friday in a Mid-Suburban League crossover.
It was Brauer's third RBI of the game as she went 2-for-3 with a double.
Other top hitters for Fremd (11-4, 7-1) were Kalyn McCarthy (2-for-3, 2 runs), Sophia Crescio (2-for-5) and Elaina Kraus (3-for-4).
Hailey Hazlett struck out six as the Vikings' starter before Grace Hiller (6-1) picked up the win, striking out two in the final two innings.
Prospect was led by Cassie Cunniff (3-for-4, 3 runs, 2 2B), Kathryn Keehn (2-for-4, 2B, 2 runs) and Madeline Borkowski (2B). Claire Doherty struck out five for the Knights (5-11, 2-6).
Buffalo Grove 4, Conant 3: Kylie Mainville threw a 7-hitter with 5 strikeouts while Megan Fontanetta went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI to lead the visiting Bison (6-8, 3-5) in the MSL crossover. Angelina Craig (3B), Elle Christou (2B), Hannah Young, Kim Stuerke and Grace Veller also had hits for BG. Hannah Oh and Emily Taucher each went 2-for-4 for the Cougars (2-13, 2-7).
Hersey 11, Hoffman Estates 0 (5 inn): Senior Brianna Luciano (6-2) hurled a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts for visiting Hersey (11-4, 5-3) in the MSL crossover. Leading the Huskies' offense were Makayla Tsagalis (4-for-4, 2B, 3 runs), Lauren Steininger (2-for-4), Renae Curtis (2-for-4), Natalia Kubsik (2-for-3, 2 runs), Savannah Gazda (2-for-2) and Sarah Bailitz (2B). Brianna Venegas had the only hit for Hoffman (1-17, 1-7).
Geneva 13, Palatine 2: Senior shortstop Emily Parrott had 2 doubles for host Palatine (16-2), which lost for the first time in 16 games.
Downers Grove South 18, Leyden 2 (4 inn): Jen Molini belted a 2-run homer for visiting Leyden (13-5) in the West Suburban Gold.
