Baseball: Burlington Central wins wild game over Hampshire
Burlington Central 20, Hampshire 17: Longtime rivals combined for 31 hits - including 7 home runs - in a wild nonconference game in Burlington. Cody Carlson hit 2 home runs and drove in five and Kyle Fischer homered and knocked in three runs for Central (12-8). Jon Mroz hit a grand slam in a losing cause for Hampshire (13-8). Gavin Kriegel, Caden Pyszka and Joshua Sulejmani also homered for the Whip-Purs.
Bartlett 8, Glenbard South 5: Geno Frieri's fourth-inning sacrifice fly snapped a 4-4 tie and he pitched the Hawks to the Upstate Eight win. Nathan Gargano pitched the final 2⅔ innings to earn the save for Bartlett (8-7-1, 5-6).
South Elgin 11, Streamwood 1: The Storm scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to complete an Upstate Eight win. Garrett Wano (3-for-4) doubled and drove in 4 runs and Joe Teschke did not allow an earned run in 6 innings to earn the win for South Elgin (15-3, 13-2). AJ Reyna took the loss for Streamwood (12-9, 9-6).
West Aurora 15, Elgin 1: Justin Zimmerman limited Elgin to an earned run on a hit and 3 walks and struck out eight in an Upstate Eight win. Darin Hartkopp (3 RBI) had 2 hits for West Aurora (15-6,1, 11-4-1).
Kaneland 9-8, St. Francis 0-7: Kaneland (18-7) swept a nonconference twinight doubleheader at Trout Park in Elgin. In Game 1, six Knights pitched an inning apiece in a combined 1-hitter and Jon Howard hit a solo home run. In Game 2, Mikey Rogers (3 RBI) and Angel Acevedo each went 2-for-3 with a double. Winning pitcher Mason Kottmeyer allowed 6 runs on 8 hits but lasted 5⅓ innings to get the win. Alijah Acevedo pitched the final 1⅔ innings for the save.
Chicago Christian 6, St. Edward 4: The Knights scored 2 runs in the top of the eighth to win a Metro Suburban Red game in Elgin. Jeff Mamrot (RBI) tripled and Jack Olson (2 RBI) went 2-for-4 with a double for St. Edward (10-12, 4-6). Reliever Ben Boydston took the loss of Joey Mandarino, who allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks and struck out one in 7 innings.
Aurora Central Catholic 21, IMSA 2: Leadoff man Jeff Albert went 3-for-3 with 2 triples, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored to pace a nonconference rout in Aurora for ACC (17-8).
Elgin Academy 12, Northridge Prep 2: Colin Konicek, Christian Rodriguez and Reece Zonts doubled in a 6-inning, Independent School League win for Elgin Academy (14-4, 6-0).
