Lowest voter turnout in two decades in suburban Cook County

The April 2 local elections in suburban Cook County registered the lowest voter turnout in more than two decades, the Cook County Clerk's office said Friday.

Turnout in the Cook County suburbs was just above 14 percent, though the number of early voters was just 1,646 shy of the highest mark of 64,586 in 2017, officials reported.

Meanwhile, the number of registered voters - 1,603,193 - is the highest it's ever been for suburban Cook County.

The clerk's office completed its canvass and certified official results to the Illinois State Board of Elections on Tuesday.
