Softball: S. Elgin duo shuts out West Aurora
Sidney Strama and Geneva Pollman combined to shut out West Aurora 4-0 on Thursday in Aurora, keeping the Storm alone in first place in the Upstate Eight Conference.
Strama worked the first 4⅔ and allowed 6 hits and 2 walks. Pollman pitched the final 2⅓ giving up 2 hits. Neither pitcher had a strikeout.
Cara Cruthers led the offense going 2-for-3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Kaylie Humes also had 2 hits for South Elgin (16-5, 8-0). Morgan Meinicke and Strama also had an RBI.
Rose Marmelejo and Callie Meinel both had 2 hits for West Aurora (10-8, 5-3).
Kaneland 4, Sterling 1: Emilee Erickson struck out 13 and gave up 4 hits and 2 walks as the Knights improved to 18-4. Rose Roach, Hailey Roach and Lily Lindgren all had 2 hits.
Lake Park 8, Geneva 0: Shelly Deisz was in the pitcher's circle for Geneva and allowed 11 hits and 8 runs over 6 innings, striking out four and walking one. The Vikings (4-5) managed just 3 hits, one of them a single from Carissa Bombardiere in the first inning.
Streamwood 7, Bartlett 4: Streamwood (9-5) took the lead for good with 4 runs in the third inning when Taylyr Crocilla tripled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Laura Dietrich doubled in the inning, scoring one run. Corinne Angle singled, scoring one run, and Ariana Wolfard drew a walk, scoring a run. Crocilla was the winning pitcher, surrendering 4 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Harvard 7, Burlington Central 5: The Rockets (12-4) hung on until the end, but Harvard pulled away late on a 3-run home run in the fifth inning. Burlington Central tallied 9 hits in the game, led by Peyton Curtis and Lindsay Jamrozek with 2 hits each. Alisyn Catenacci took the loss for the Rockets, going six innings, striking out nine and walking one.
St. Francis 11, Rosary 1: The Royals (6-8) saw the game slip away early and couldn't recover, as Brooke Capparelli suffered the loss. Capparelli and Emily Hurst got the only hits for Rosary.
