The need for immigrants

Regarding the April 16 column "America is not full" by Cokie and Steve Roberts that America needs more immigrants to achieve a stronger economy. They seem to put all immigrants in one basket, assuming there are no bad apples, criminals, rapists, etc. in it.

The word "immigrant" was mentioned more than 10 times, but never once was the word legal or illegal ever used. The last time I checked, we are a country of laws, and illegal is against our law. The column seems to indicate that we need open borders because of our labor shortage, which I'm sure would be to the delight of most leftist Dems, who will find nefarious methods in a brazen attempt to grant citizenship, which could lead to unlimited benefits, the main purpose of which is, guess what, more votes for Democrats.
