Girls soccer: Johnson scores twice as Wauconda wins
Savannah Johnson had 2 goals and an assist, and Wauconda shut out host Lakes 5-0 in Northern Lake County Conference girls soccer action Tuesday.
Olivia Kuch, Abigail McHugh (penalty kick) and Jordan Bodden also scored for Wauconda (9-2-1, 2-0). Oceanna Pfeiffer and Megan Sinnott each contributed an assist, and keeper Mackenzie Arden made 6 saves.
"We were happy with how consistently we played today," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "It was important to score early and keep the pressure on Lakes. They are a team that does not give up goals easily and keeps games close. I am pleased that we scored in both halves. The girls remained unselfish and moved the ball well."
Stevenson 1, Lake Zurich 0: Gabi Nyc scored off an assist from Kalyssa VanZanten, and the host Patriots won the North Suburban Conference match.
Jenny Staten made 9 saves in earning her 10th shutout for Stevenson (12-1-2, 3-0).
Lake Zurich (8-5-1) got 5 saves from keeper Paige Grossenbacher.
Grayslake Central 9, North Chicago 0: Grace Herrmann scored 3 goals, and the Rams did all of their scoring in the opening half of the Northern Lake County Conference match.
Amanda Kocialkowski added 2 goals and 2 assists for Grayslake Central (6-6, 1-2), Madeline Mussay had a goal and 3 assists, and Maura Fitzgerald contributed 2 goals and 1 assist. Georgia Bond also scored.
Round Lake 1, Grayslake North 1: Dana Devera scored the equalizer for Round Lake off an assist from Evelyn Hierzer in the second half of the Northern Lake County Conference match.
Round Lake keeper Giselle Raygoza made 8 saves.
Grant 1, Antioch 1: Each team scored in the second half of the Northern Lake County Conference match.
Warren 0, Lake Forest 0: Warren keeper Sarah Barbosa had 4 saves in the first half of the North Suburban Conference match.
Warren (6-5-2, 1-1-1) will play Rockford Lutheran in the first round of the Glenbrook Cup on Thursday.
Vernon Hills 1, Maine West 1: Julia Neary's unassisted goal, and Daniella Jarrell's 5 saves in net helped Vernon Hills earn a draw in the Central Suburban League North Division match.
Vernon Hills is 4-5-5 and 0-1-2.
