Dogtopia, now open on Randall Road in South Elgin, offers daycare, boarding and playtime for four-legged friends.

A new business that will play with your pets while you're gone for the day and pamper them is open along the Randall Road corridor.

Owners Dave and Sue George opened Dogtopia of South Elgin at 580 Randall Road this month.

They said they chose the South Elgin spot along the Randall Road corridor because it is close to many families that care about their dogs.

"This is our first business and after working in corporate America for 30 years, I decided it was time to switch gears and marry my passion for business with my love of dogs by opening Dogtopia for the local dog community," David George said.

The store is independently owned, but there are more than 90 Dogtopia stores across the country, George said.

"We have a support office in Phoenix with over 40 people dedicated to the success of our business including a veterinarian, biologist and animal behaviorist," George said.

With that support, he says, the center maintains the highest of standards to offer the best for your beloved pets.

He says the center has three key components - educations, exercise and socialization, all of which help each dog that stays in South Elgin, no matter how long they come for.

The South Elgin location has three large day care playrooms, each supervised by a certified canine coach.

"Dogs in our care are in similar size and temperament play groups for up to eight to 10 hours per day where we'll work on positive reinforcement training, games, snacks, a nap and enjoy lots of social interactions with other pups and our staff," he said. "You will be able to watch your pup on our playroom webcams."

In celebration of Dogtopia of South Elgin's official grand opening from 3 to 6 p.m. on May 2, the business of South Elgin will offer a bonus of day care with certain purchases, George said. There will also be a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m.

For information, call Dogtopia at (630) 442-4656.

The business opens at 7 a.m. every weekday and stays open until 7 p.m., if you need to drop off your pets early or pick them up late. On weekends Dogtopia's hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Book club:

The Barnes and Noble store in Geneva invites you to read books each month and then come into the store to discuss them with fellow readers.

For the month of May, the book club will be discussing "Lost Roses" by Martha Hall Kelly.

You have a couple of weeks to read the book if you want to join in the discussion. It will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 7.

If you're ready to gear up for summer reading, the group also should be announcing upcoming picks.

For information, visit the store at 102 Commons Drive, Geneva, or call (630) 232-8568.
