Girls soccer: Staten, Stevenson post another shutout

Myah Schoolman converted a penalty kick late in the first half, Kalyssa VanZanten also scored, and Stevenson's girls soccer team shut out host Maine South 2-0 in nonconference action Saturday.

Krissy Hill assisted on VanZanten's goal, and keeper Jenny Staten earned her ninth shutout with 4 saves. Stevenson, which is in a stretch of five games in seven days, improved to 11-1-2.

"The level of competition is outstanding, and I couldn't be more proud of my ladies," Patriots coach PepeJon Chavez said. "(Coach) JJ (Crawford) has a great group at Maine South. However, we are changing the landscape of Stevenson soccer and walking into a new identity."

Libertyville 1, Prospect 0: Brynn Miller scored in the second half of an assist from Lauren Huber, as the visiting Wildcats captured the nonconference win.

Kendall Edwards earned the shutout with 2 saves.

Mundelein 2, Vernon Hills 0: The visiting Mustangs got second-half goals from Gigi Sahagun and Nicole Robb in the nonconference match.

Anahi Gonzalez assisted on Robb's tally. Goalkeeper Lia Perrelli had 5 saves, as Mundelein improved to 5-5.

Vernon Hills (4-5-4) got 5 saves from keeper Cassie Pappano.
