Elgin Vineyard hosts Easter egg hunt, Good Friday service

Easter weekend highlights at Vineyard Church of Elgin include a Good Friday service, egg hunt and Easter Sunday service with extra choir and brass. The community is invited to attend.

The Good Friday Tenebrae service begins at 7 p.m. April 19 at the church, 220 Division St.

Designed to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story, the Tenebrae is a traditional service marked by solemnity and reverence to commemorate the terrible journey Jesus took to the cross on behalf of all people.

In the spirit of Easter fun, Elgin Vineyard also invites the community to a free egg hunt, weather permitting, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. This event takes place at Wing Park, 1000 Wing Blvd. There will be separate egg hunts for different age groups, up to age 12.

If the weather is questionable, visit www.elginvineyard.com to verify whether or not the egg hunt is still on.

On Easter Sunday, April 21, the morning service begins at 10 a.m., with a free coffee bar open at 9:30 a.m. This celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ will last about an hour, a little shorter than usual in order to give families plenty of time to be together on the holiday.
