Alexian Village of Elk Grove Celebrates National Pet Day

Thursday, April 11 is National Pet Day, and residents of Pathway to Living senior housing communities like Alexian Village of Elk Grove are marking the occasion with extra attention for their resident pets like Rosalyn, who is the resident dog at Alexian Village of Elk Grove.

Residents of Pathway to Living communities can participate in a program called "See Spot Retire", through which the community adopts a senior cat or dog from a local animal shelter. All residents can enjoy and benefit from the companionship while the animal gets a "furever" loving home. Typically, one or two residents at each community take the lead caretaker role in caring for the pet, feeding it and walking the dog, which provides exercise, purpose and fulfillment for seniors.

In addition to the "See Spot Retire" program, seniors who live at Pathway to Living communities can bring their own cat or dog to live in their individual apartment, which helps combat loneliness and stress.
