Baseball: Larkin wins 1st game
Max Anderson struck out 16 East Aurora batters to lift Larkin to its first victory of the season in Elgin Friday.
Anderson limited East Aurora (4-7, 3-4) to an earned run on 4 hits and 6 walks in 6⅓ innings in a 5-1 Upstate Eight win.
Senior Sebastian Nava (2 RBI) singled and drove in 2 runs for Larkin (1-11, 1-6). Tayshon Erdman, Zach Hubbard and Kaydin Clark each knocked in a run to help first-year coach Niko Morado earn his first win.
Glenbard South 3, Elgin 2: Elgin scored twice in the sixth inning but was unable to complete the Upstate Eight comeback on a day they committed 6 errors that led to 2 unearned runs. Jorge Martinez held the Raiders to an earned run on 3 hits in 3 innings. Johnny Villegas did not allow an earn run on 3 hits and a walk in 4 innings for Elgin (0-10, 0-7).
South Elgin 11, Glenbard East 3: The Storm belted 8 extra-base hits to tie the Rams for first place in the Upstate Eight Conference. Patrick Keaty tripled and scored 3 runs and Logan Romassanta had 2 of the 7 doubles hit by South Elgin (8-2, 6-1). Winning pitcher Joe Teschke held Glenbard East (6-1, 10-5) to 3 earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks and struck out 5 in 6 innings.
West Aurora 9, West Chicago 0: Logan Mont threw a 5-hitter with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts to lift the Blackhawks in the Upstate Eight. Danny Marion (2 RBI) and Graham Rachow each hit home runs and Darrin Hartkopp doubled twice and knocked in a pair for West Aurora (9-4, 5-2), which capitalized on 3 errors by West Chicago (3-7, 3-4).
Hinsdale Central 7, Geneva 3: The Vikings allowed 4 first-inning runs and issued 7 walks in a nonconference road loss. Jonah Hays took the loss for Geneva (7-6-1).
Aurora Central Catholic 19, St. Edward 7: Jeff Albert homered, tripled and drove in 3 runs, Alex Rakas tripled twice and drove in 5 and Tommy Musuras doubled twice and knocked in a pair for the Chargers in a Metro Suburban Red crossover. Musuras pitched 3 scoreless innings to earn the win for ACC (13-5). Losing pitcher Ben Boydston and four relievers walked a combined 10 batters for St. Edward (6-8), which had won five straight.
Normal West 10, Kaneland 0: A 9-run bottom of the fifth turned what had been a tight nonconference matchup in Normal into a five-inning rout. Losing pitcher Alijah Acevedo allowed 6 hits and 4 walks in 4-plus innings for Kaneland (9-7).
